Cinema in School
With the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and in cooperation with the international organization PH International, the National Film Center is implementing the pilot project "Cinema at School" starting from March 17 across 5 regions of Georgia. Today, a presentation of the project was held at the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia, led by Nana Janelidze, Director of the Film Center.
The presentation was attended by Tamar Sanikidze, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, and Guram Odisharia, Minister of Culture and Monument Protection. Invited guests included representatives of cinema and theater, as well as members of the Parliament of Georgia.
The project "Cinema at School" aims to popularize cinematic art among the adolescent generation of Georgia, develop analytical thinking and aesthetic perception skills, and raise awareness in the field of cinema among the new generation.
For the pilot project, 40 schools were selected across 5 regions of Georgia (Kvemo Kartli, Shida Kartli, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Imereti, Adjara).
Over the course of 3 months, classical works of Georgian and world cinematography are screened once a week for senior students (8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th-grade students). The films have been selected in consultation with professionals (film critics, psychologists, education experts). If desired, screenings of successful contemporary Georgian films can also be held.
Throughout the 3 months, the 12-part course in schools is conducted by 20 cinema professionals who have undergone special preparatory training and lead discussions in classrooms after the film screenings.
Furthermore, within the framework of the project, it is planned to involve students in live cinematic processes – working on film scripts and shooting short films.
