The project "Cinema at School" is being implemented in public schools
The Georgian National Film Center, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, is implementing the project "Cinema at School". The project aims to use films as a tool for the development of a free individual bearing national and universal human values, through the popularization of cinema art among adolescents, and the development of analytical and critical thinking and aesthetic perception skills.
Within the framework of the project, students have the opportunity to watch films selected according to age categories together with professional film critics, learn the specific features of screenwriting, and write mini-screenplays themselves. The films were selected by film critics, education experts, and psychologists. Screenings of 18 films, representing both film classics and contemporary cinema, are planned.
The implementation of the project began on March 17, 2014, and will conclude at the end of the 2013-2014 academic year.
The target group consists of public school students of grades IX-XI, who were selected taking into consideration the psycho-emotional and cognitive abilities of adolescents.
At this stage, 40 schools (Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Imereti, Kvemo Kartli, Shida Kartli, Adjara) are involved in the project, where film clubs have been established. The schools were selected as a result of reviewing the motivation letters submitted by them.
The work of the film clubs in the schools is managed by 16 facilitators, each of whom covers 2-4 schools.
