The event was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Labor, Health and Social Affairs, non-governmental organizations, members of the State Coordinating Council on Disability Issues, and employers.
During the meeting, challenges related to the employment of persons with special educational needs and disabilities were discussed. The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia presented the activities and initiatives planned for 2014 in the field of inclusive vocational education, which will facilitate the establishment of employment precedents for these individuals.
A representative of the International Organization for Migration spoke about employment models for persons with special educational needs and disabilities. These models and recommendations were developed with the financial support of the Government of the Czech Republic.
The meeting highlighted the following needs regarding the employment of persons with special educational needs and disabilities:
- Strengthening inter-agency coordination;
- Developing a unified vision for defining employment policies for persons with special educational needs and disabilities;
- Creating and implementing mechanisms to motivate employers.
As a result of the meeting, the formation of working groups was outlined, which will include persons with special educational needs themselves, employers, and ministry representatives. Consequently, a unified policy on the employment of persons with disabilities will be determined.
