The Minister in the Border City University
Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Tamar Sanikidze met with the professors and teachers of Zugdidi Shota Meskhia State Teaching University. According to the Minister, meeting with the representatives of higher educational institutions in a dialogue format is important for both parties, especially when the meeting is held in the region.
The purpose of the meeting was for the Minister to personally introduce ongoing and planned updates to the professors and teachers and to hear their evaluations of the projects initiated by the Ministry. It was also important to learn about the existing problems at the university and to listen to their comments and proposals.
Both bachelor's and vocational programs are implemented at the Zugdidi and Senaki branches of the Zugdidi Teaching University. The university representatives learned from the Minister that this year the Infrastructure Development Agency of the Ministry will carry out the full rehabilitation of the Senaki Vocational College, the renovation of sanitary facilities, the construction of a cattle farm, and the gasification of the college. Additionally, the student dormitory of the same college will be rehabilitated.
The rehabilitation of the student dormitory will also be carried out at the Zugdidi branch of Meskhia University, and the building's roof will be replaced.
According to University Rector Professor Teona Khupenia, the rehabilitation works planned at the educational institution are vitally important for the entire region. The rehabilitation of student dormitories in both branches is particularly important, as this will alleviate housing problems for students from the territory of Abkhazia, as well as for socially vulnerable students from various regions of Georgia, and will significantly increase accessibility to education.
