English Language Summer School Launched
On June 16, the English Language Teaching Enhancement Program was launched. Its participants are successful 9th, 10th, and 11th-grade students selected based on the results of the third round of the National School Olympiads. Today, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Lia Gigauri familiarized herself with the ongoing project.
The project is implemented at the base of the Buckswood International School - Tbilisi and includes two sub-programs: "English Language Summer Schools in Georgia" and "English Language Summer Schools in the United Kingdom."
600 students are participating in the program across 4 streams. From these, the 32 best students (8 from each stream) will travel to the UK with full ministry funding for a 2-week English language summer school.
This year, the English language camp has been completely renewed, both in terms of language teaching methodology and in the format and content of the lessons.
In this year's English language program, after determining their level of English proficiency, students are placed not in the groups corresponding to their test results, but one level higher, in order to further enhance their progress over the course of three weeks.
This year, the general English language course curriculum has been completely revised, and interesting topics have been added such as: PR at Buckswood, Press Day, Career Skills, Academic Writing, Business English, Tourism, Diplomatic Relationships, Modern Slang, English collocations, etc.
Also this year, the academic component has been supplemented by the so-called "Learning Portfolio," which documents the student's 3-week academic activities, reflecting step-by-step and in detail the content and themes of the educational material covered within the framework of the program.
Every tenth day, the teacher prepares a progress report assessing the academic results of each student. Students are also tested every tenth day to check their academic performance and progress.
Upon arrival at the summer school, students were distributed into groups with various names, and each group was assigned a leader who ensures the students' active participation in sports, creative activities, and competitions.
