Presentation of the Teacher Professional Standard Guide Held
A presentation of the Teacher Professional Standard Guidebook was held at the National Center for Teacher Professional Development of the Ministry, attended by Lia Gigauri, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia.
The primary purpose of the teacher standard is to manage the teachers' activity process and promote their continuous professional development. The requirements that a professional teacher must meet are precisely outlined in the standard. It is directly connected to such important documents as the National Curriculum and the National Goals of General Education.
The standard serves as the basis for the unified system of teacher training and professional development, as well as teacher evaluation. For both current and future teachers, it is important that the teacher training and professional development system is viewed as a whole.
The Teacher Professional Standard was approved in 2008; however, since then, it became necessary to introduce changes to the first version of the standard and refine its core pedagogical part in accordance with new challenges. Additionally, one of the most important reasons for the change in March 2014 was the division of teachers into four different qualification categories, which will form the basis for the updated version of the professional development scheme.
