A new stage of cooperation begins with the Forschungszentrum Jรผlich
A strategic cooperation agreement was signed between the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the Forschungszentrum Jรผlich (FZJ) of Germany. The agreement was signed by Tamar Sanikidze, Minister of Education and Science, and Sebastian Schmidt, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jรผlich Research Centre.
The agreement provides for:
- Promoting student exchange through internships, master's, and doctoral programs;
- Supporting Georgian doctoral students by preparing agreements between Georgian and German universities within the framework of so-called joint study programs;
- Supporting Georgian scientists in joint research activities and equipping them with scientific facilities;
- Ensuring the implementation of medium- and long-term joint projects within and outside the Jรผlich Research Centre, for instance, through the submission of applications by Georgian-German partners within the framework of the European Union's "Horizon 2020" program initiative;
- Assisting the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia in its intention to define and sign a renewed intergovernmental agreement on scientific and educational cooperation between Georgia and Germany.
On the same day, Ilia State University was added to the Consortium of Georgian Universities (Georgian Technical University, Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University), and in accordance with the agreement, the signing parties will promote the further development of long-term scientific and educational cooperation between the Consortium and the institutes of the Jรผlich Research Centre of Germany (Institute of Energy and Climate Research - IEK, Institute for Nuclear Physics - IKP, Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine - INM, Jรผlich Centre for Neutron Science - JCNS), and the Central Institute of Engineering, Electronics and Analytics (ZEA).
As a result, the involvement of Georgian students and scientists in ongoing research at the Jรผlich Research Centre will significantly increase, enabling Georgian students to gain international experience, establish contacts with their peers, and become full-fledged representatives of the international scientific community. Students of the three Georgian state universities will have the opportunity to receive an international qualification document.
The Jรผlich Research Centre of Germany and the Consortium of Georgian Universities will facilitate the return of Georgian scientists to Georgia and ensure the equipping of laboratories and the creation of working conditions for them.
