Parental Involvement and Education in School Life

The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia is launching new programs regarding the involvement of parents in school life. A presentation on this topic was held today at the Ministry. Minister Tamar Sanikidze provided comprehensive information to journalists regarding the new initiatives.
The new initiatives aimed at increasing parental involvement in school life and raising awareness will be implemented in several directions:
- According to the new edition of the National Curriculum, regular communication with parents becomes mandatory for class teachers;
- Programs are being launched to strengthen parental involvement in school life, which implies regular, two-way, results-oriented cooperation between the parent and the school. The parent becomes a full-fledged partner of the school;
- Starting from January 2015, in the direction of inclusive education, educational programs for parents of students with special educational needs will be launched, parents will be retrained, and their involvement in school life will be ensured;
- To promote general education, a parental education sub-program will be implemented, which involves informing parents on such important topics as: supporting the identification of a child's individual needs, developing the necessary skills for learning at home, promoting a healthy lifestyle, considering age-psychological characteristics in the process of communication with the child, and others.
All the new initiatives planned regarding parents serve a single purpose - for the school, together with the family, to raise a healthy, educated, and dignified citizen.
