A new school has been built in Zestaponi district
The construction of a new school is nearing completion in the village of Station Sviri, Zestafoni District, with roofing, interior, and exterior renovation works currently underway. Today, Tamar Sanikidze, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, and Zaza Meparishvili, Governor of Imereti, visited Sviri to inspect the construction works and meet with teachers and local residents.
For decades, students in the village of Station Sviri studied in an old building under non-standard conditions unsuitable for learning. The educational process took place in auxiliary structures of a railway substructure located on the outskirts of the village, which lacked basic sanitary and hygienic conditions. A high-voltage substation operates 25 meters away from the building, and high-voltage transmission lines—which emit strong electromagnetic radiation—run directly over the structure.
During the last academic year, only 57 students studied at the school, and their number decreased annually. In a conversation with the Minister, local residents expressed hope that all students who left the school due to poor learning conditions will inevitably return and continue their education in the new, modernly equipped school.
The new school building was constructed in a much better and more favorable location than the old one. The two-story modern school will be equipped with new furniture and appliances, and will feature centralized heating, a learning laboratory, a library, a computer lab, a medical office, and an outdoor sports ground. The school is also adapted for students with special educational needs. Designed for 120 students, the school will commence operations in October 2014.
