Rehabilitation of public schools is underway
The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia continues the construction and rehabilitation works of public schools on an ongoing basis - the construction of schools started in 2013 across Georgia is being completed in stages, and the construction of eight new schools is beginning. In addition, more than 400 public schools are undergoing rehabilitation, including 64 public schools in Tbilisi.
Today, Tamar Sanikidze, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, visited Public School No. 133 in the Gldani-Nadzaladevi district of Tbilisi and, together with representatives of the Educational Infrastructure Development Agency of the Ministry, personally inspected the ongoing rehabilitation works.
The first stage of repair works at Public School No. 133 has already been completed - classrooms have been renovated and furnished; currently, corridor repairs, replacement of floors and doors, and painting works are underway, and a medical office will be arranged.
In the second stage of rehabilitation, it is also planned to install gutters, water diversion and drainage systems, and rehabilitate the existing electrical system. By the beginning of the new academic year, the school will be fully rehabilitated.
Repair works are proceeding intensively in the remaining public schools as well. Furthermore, in 2014, 44 public schools will be provided with natural gas, and a new heating system will be installed in 34 schools.
According to the Minister, construction and rehabilitation works will continue on an ongoing basis in the future as well, since drastically improving school infrastructure and creating a modern learning environment remains one of the primary priorities of the Ministry.
