University Clinic to be Established
The rehabilitation of educational and scientific infrastructure is one of the key priorities of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. In this direction, the Ministry is implementing numerous large-scale projects. Among them is the establishment and equipping of the Tbilisi State Medical University's multidisciplinary university clinic (former 8th Hospital). At this stage, the rehabilitation of the 163-bed building has been completed, and the process of equipping the university clinic with modern technology is underway.
Today, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Tamar Sanikidze and the Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs David Sergeenko, together with representatives of the Medical University, visited the clinic to inspect the high-value equipment purchased by the Ministry for the clinic and to review the rehabilitation works.
The university clinic will become fully operational in early 2015, which will have a positive impact both on the healthcare sector and on ensuring the unity of education and research, which is an essential condition for the training of medical professionals.
Based on the clinic, up to 2,000 students of the Medical University will undergo lecture courses and internships, as a large part of the clinic is occupied precisely by lecture halls. Additionally, the 163-bed clinic will employ 500 staff members, including 206 professors and doctors.
The university clinic will ensure the enhancement of students' education levels, the acquisition of practical skills, and the gaining of clinical experience, which are so important in terms of future employment and successful activities in the field of medicine.
