The "Teach for Georgia" program is being successfully implemented

At Teacher House, Tamar Sanikidze, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, presented certificates to the participating teachers of the "Teach for Georgia" program. A documentary film about the program participants and their activities was also shown at the festive reception.

The aim of the "Teach for Georgia" program is to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the regions and to employ young, qualified personnel where there is a shortage of teachers. Regions where adolescents do not receive an appropriate education require special attention and assistance. In order to prevent the existing situation and ensure quality education in schools, the program has been refined in recent years and fully adapted to current needs.

Within the framework of the updated program, since 2014:

  • The geographical area has expanded – since 2014, the geographical scope of the program has included not only schools in high-mountainous and remote districts, but also covers all public schools in Georgia that experience a shortage of qualified teachers.
  • Teachers' remuneration has increased - the salary received according to the hourly workload at schools is supplemented by an allowance, the amount of which is determined based on the distance of the school from the participant's registered place of residence, amounting to up to 1,000 GEL as an addition to the school salary.
  • 50% of the educators hold a relevant subject teacher certificate, which is also a novelty, since starting from 2014, preference in the selection stage is given precisely to this category.

In the 2013-2014 academic year, 146 consultant-teachers were involved in the program, carrying out pedagogical activities for one year in public schools across various regions of Georgia. Of these, 114 will remain in the program starting from September. Some of the teachers are not continuing their participation in the program in order to pursue Master's studies, which the Ministry also finances for the participants on the basis of a state grant obtained within the framework of the program.

The "Teach for Georgia" program is implemented by the National Center for Teacher Professional Development of the Ministry.
