A formal meeting was held at the Ministry
This year, the state is celebrating the 26th centenary of the settlement of Jews in Georgia.
In connection with the jubilee, an event was held at the Ministry of Education and Science dedicated to the memory of Academician Constantine Tsereteli, the founder of the Department of the Hebrew Language in Georgia, a renowned Semitologist, and a prominent representative of the Georgian school of humanities. Within the framework of the event, Minister Tamar Sanikidze awarded professors and teachers and presented them with honorary diplomas for their special contribution to the popularization of the Hebrew language in Georgia.
A documentary film depicting the activities of Academician Kote Tsereteli as the founder of the Department of the Hebrew Language in Georgia was presented at the event. University-level teaching of the Hebrew language in Georgia was initiated by Kote Tsereteli as early as 1944 and continues successfully to this day. As for the Georgian school of Oriental studies, it is one of the strongest schools in the world.
The celebratory meeting was attended by: Yuval Fuchs, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel to Georgia, representatives of the Jewish community living in Georgia, representatives of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, and the Georgian National Academy of Sciences.
