Meeting of CERN representatives at GTU
An international conference on Grid & Cloud technologies was held at the Georgian Technical University, which was opened by Tamar Sanikidze, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia. The conference was attended by Archil Prangishvili, Rector of the Georgian Technical University, invited experts from the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), as well as scientists from the South Caucasus countries, specifically Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.
The aim of the conference is to establish mutual cooperation and share experience among scientists.
The Government of Georgia is working to become an associate member of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in the near future. The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia welcomes close cooperation with CERN. For its part, CERN supports the implementation of various joint projects, such as the possibility of manufacturing components for the ATLAS detector, the development of information technology projects and a Grid (computer network) cluster in Georgia, as well as the internship of Georgian scientists and teachers at the European Center for Nuclear Research, the development of hadron therapy projects for autistic children, and others. It is no coincidence that the Georgian Technical University is hosting the event; the Grid (computer network) cluster will be established precisely on the basis of the university, which at the same time will serve as one of CERN's computing resources.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia considers the development of applications by Georgian researchers on Grid and Cloud technology resources to be of significant importance.
