Mikheil Batiashvili: If a university loses its authorization, it does not have the opportunity to confirm its elimination [of shortcomings] for one year in the event that it resolves them โ this is not right and we will work on this

"If a university loses its authorization, it is not entitled to re-apply for a year โ this is not right and we will work on it. A university might fix the problems within a month, yet it has to wait for a year. If a university manages to rectify the deficiencies in a timely manner, we will welcome this," stated Mikheil Batiashvili, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, at the plenary session of the Parliament.
While speaking about the Black Sea University, the Minister explained that the decision of the Council to suspend the admission of first-year students to the university was based on the university's debt, which could have created certain risks. The university itself acknowledged this as well. As soon as the Black Sea University paid off its entire debt and submitted the relevant documentation to the Council, the independent council made an appropriate decision.
Speaking on the topic of mobility, the Minister noted that, according to the law, a student is prohibited from participating in mobility during the first year. According to him, this problem must be resolved at the legislative level.
