Georgian Para-fencers win 2 gold medals from the UAE

At the Parasport Development Center, Mikheil Giorgadze, First Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, met with para-fencers Irma Khetsuriani and Nina Tibilashvili and congratulated them on their success in the international arena. Deputy Minister Shalva Gogoladze also attended the meeting with the athletes.
The Wheelchair Fencing World Cup and the Under-23 World Championship were held in the United Arab Emirates, where Georgian athletes performed successfully — Irma Khetsuriani and Nina Tibilashvili won first place and gold medals.
In the final of the saber fencing tournament, Irma Khetsuriani defeated her Ukrainian opponent, Olena Fedota, 15-10 to become the champion. It is noteworthy that this is Irma's 14th gold medal at World Cup tournaments, which is truly an outstanding result.
Nina Tibilashvili performed successfully at the World Championship and, by defeating Thailand's Atitaya Chookerd (15:7) in the final, won the title of World Champion among under-23 wheelchair fencers. Interestingly, this is Tibilashvili's third gold medal in this age category; she has not relinquished the world champion title to anyone for three consecutive years.
Georgian parasport has a whole series of successes — judo, powerlifting, sitting volleyball, and, of course, para-fencing. In these sports, our athletes compete with exceptional success.
