Presentation of the NATO Programme for Peace and Security
On March 13 of the current year, a presentation on the NATO "Science for Peace and Security" programme was held, organized by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia. Representatives of the scientific and academic spheres, as well as non-governmental organizations, took part in the event.
The objective of the programme is to develop mechanisms for dialogue and cooperation between NATO member and partner countries, and to cooperate in terms of civilian science and innovation in accordance with NATO's strategic objectives.
Within the framework of the programme, financial and expert support is provided to governments, the academic sector, or non-commercial organizations. It implements cooperation within the framework of 3 grant mechanisms:
- Multi-Year Research Projects;
- Advanced Research Workshops;
- Advanced Training Courses.
The aforementioned initiative was founded on December 13, 1956, when the North Atlantic Council submitted a report on deepening non-military cooperation and coordination within NATO, and one of the direct results of this report was the establishment of the NATO "Science Programme" in 1958. At that time, the main objective of the programme was to promote scientific retraining in NATO member countries. Throughout its long history, it has continuously responded to the demands of various eras and has become a kind of brand of the Alliance.
