"From Tintoretto to Canaletto" Three Centuries of Italian Painting at the National Gallery

The exhibition "Color from Tintoretto to Canaletto" – Three Centuries of Italian Painting from the Late Renaissance to Rococo – has opened at the Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery.
The exhibition is held with the support of the Georgian National Museum and the Embassy of Italy in Georgia, featuring 55 works by painters such as Tintoretto, Guercino, Bernardo Strozzi, Antonio Canaletto, Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini, and others.
Visitors have the opportunity to explore the major schools of painting in Northern Italy from the 16th to the 18th centuries – ranging from Bologna (Giuseppe Maria Crespi) to Genoa (Giovanni Battista Paggi, Gioacchino Assereto, Giovanni Francesco Castiglione), and from Lombardy (Pier Francesco Mazzucchelli and Pier Francesco Cittadini) to Veneto (Bonifazio de' Pitati, Carlo Caliari, Francesco Maffei, Nicola Grassi). The exposition offers visitors a comprehensive panorama of the main movements and genres of painting of that era – portraiture, landscape, and still life. Alongside paintings on historical, allegoric-religious, and mythological themes, it features genre scenes as well as sketches of views of Venice by Antonio Canaletto. The exhibition "Color from Tintoretto to Canaletto" is part of the "Vivere ALL’italiana" program, within the framework of which exhibitions held in Georgia have already been viewed by more than 150,000 visitors.
The cycle of Italian art exhibitions in Georgia is the result of close cooperation between the institutions of the two countries. On the Georgian side, these institutions are the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports and the Georgian National Museum; while on the Italian side, they are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Embassy of Italy in Georgia.
The exhibition was prepared in collaboration with the Italian company Glocal Project Consulting.
