Presentation of Alternative Curricula for Students with Special Educational Needs Held at the Ministry
Ekaterine Dgebuadze, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, together with ministry representatives and educational experts, presented alternative curricula for students with special educational needs.
With the aim of ensuring a learning process tailored to the needs of every student, and based on the National Curriculum, an alternative curriculum has been created for students with severe and profound intellectual disabilities. The educational and hourly grids developed within the framework of this plan will enable students with special educational needs to acquire cognitive, social, motor, visual-auditory, tactile, kinesthetic, and other skills essential for development, thereby ensuring their maximum involvement in the educational process, social interactions, and daily life.
To promote the education of students with special educational needs, the Ministry has developed:
- An alternative curriculum for students with severe and multiple intellectual disabilities;
- A sensory curriculum for students with the most severe and multiple mental and physical developmental disorders;
- A sign language standard for deaf and hearing-impaired students;
- An expanded curriculum for hearing-impaired students.
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia is actively implementing and developing inclusive education components throughout Georgia in order to increase the accessibility of education for persons with special educational needs and disabilities, and to conduct a learning process tailored to them.
