The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia has developed a rule for the implementation of preventive measures related to the new coronavirus

The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia announces that despite the detection of the coronavirus in Georgia, neither international standards nor healthcare recommendations provide grounds for suspending the educational process as of today. Nevertheless, for the purpose of prevention and effective risk management, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia has developed the rule for implementing preventive measures in connection with the new coronavirus, which provides for the effective management of processes in educational, scientific, cultural and sports institutions of Georgia. To this end, an internal departmental working group has already been established within the Ministry, comprising the Minister, the First Deputy Minister, Deputy Ministers, and heads of the Ministry's structural units.

According to the rule for implementing preventive measures adopted by the Ministry regarding the new coronavirus, the administrations of scientific, cultural and sports institutions, students, pupils and their parents (legal representatives) have been given the following recommendations:

• To observe sanitary and hygienic conditions to the maximum extent possible;
• Institutions shall periodically carry out disinfection of buildings;
• In the event of disease symptoms manifesting on the premises of the institution, the individual must be isolated immediately, a notification must be made to the hotline of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia must also be informed;
• In the event of disease symptoms manifesting/being detected outside the premises of the institution, the individual is obliged to immediately undergo self-isolation, notify the hotline of the Center for Disease Control, as well as the institution's administration, and wait for relevant instructions;
• In the event of confirmation of the fact by the Center for Disease Control, the school administration, in agreement with the resource center, shall declare quarantine on the premises of the institution and carry out the identification/isolation of persons in direct contact with the infected person and the employees of the institution in accordance with the issued instructions.

The Ministry has instructed school administrations, where necessary, to ensure the informing of pupils' parents/legal representatives and the provision of informational meetings; and resource centers, vocational and higher educational institutions to identify/determine needs and immediately inform the Ministry thereof.
