Assessment of the Codes of Ethics

Codes of Ethics are successfully followed in the general educational institutions. Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Irine Kurdadze and Director of the National Center for Teacher Professional Development, Gia Mamulashvili held a working meeting with the teachers, schoolchildren and the school principals and together evaluated the Codes of Ethics, operating at general educational institutions.

From September 2010, school principals’ and teachers’ Codes of Ethics as well as Codes of Conduct of the schoolchildren were launched in all public and private schools of Georgia. According to the participants of the meeting, Codes of Ethics were commenced in time and they are necessary for creating the efficient school environment. Codes solved the problems, existing at schools.

Due to the development of the Codes of Ethics, relations between the teachers, schoolchildren and the principals were regulated and advanced. Based on the Codes, internal regulation of the schools were created, discipline is improved, parents’ engagement in the school process is raised, private tutors’ hours are abolished, facts of physical and oral abuses are abolished as well. School principals express much more support to the professional development of the teachers.

New Codes were developed by the experts of the National Center for Teacher Professional Development. Representatives of NGOs, public schools, lawyers and psychologists took part in the development of the final version.

In order to launched Codes of Ethics more effectively, trainings, seminars, workshops will be still held with the schoolchildren, teachers and school principals.
